Dr.SNM Tripathi, D.Litt. (I.C.S)
(1902-1988)
"Born in Saryuparin Brahmin family in the year 1902 in the Village of Barpaar, District Deoria (UP - India) Pt. Surati Narayan Mani Tripathi was the First ICS of UP State. He has held many important posts including the post of District Magistrate - Gorakhpur, Allahabad and Luck now. That was the time when Pt. S.N.M. Tripathi took a vow to build an University in Gorakhpur. He was the Founder President of the Gorakhpur University. Other personalities like Mahanth Digvijaynath, Shri Hanuman Prasad Poddar, Sardar Majithia were also members of the foundation team.He was also one of the founders of Faizabad University.
He held the post of Chairman - Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission, Allahabad. He was Vice Chancellor of Sampoornanand Sanskrit University-Varanasi. He did a lot for Sanskrit language while holding this post.
He was also Vice Chairman & Managing Director of British India Corporation in Kanpur. He then became Independent MLC from 1968 to 1980 from graduates’ constituency from Gorakhpur-Faizabad. People use to call him Madan Mohan Malviya of Gorakhpur. One of the most powerful personalities of UP. Was very close to Pt.Govind Vallabh Pant and Dr.Sampoornanad Ex-CM's of UP. He was also conferred on Doctor of Letter. He departed to heavenly abode in the year 1988 in the Holy city of Varanasi."

Late Pt.SNM Tripathi had three sons and four daughters with his Wife Late Smt. Durga Devi. Their three sons were bestowed with powerful & important positions in their professional lives.
